Legendary Surfer Doc Paskowitz To Be Featured Speaker at Casa Romantica

Casa Up Close to Feature Original artwork from Joshua Ben Paskowitz and Classic Lightening Bolt Pipeline Surfboards also on display for one-night only.

Dorian “Doc” Paskowitz, the pioneer of the modern surf culture, will be “talking story” at an intimate gathering at San Clemente’s Casa Romantica Cultural Center, Thursday, April 10 at 7:00 PM.  Doc, who recently celebrated his 93rd birthday, was recently ranked the 4th most influential surfer of all time, right behind Kelly Slater.   Tickets are extremely limited and are available to the general public for only $15 (Casa members are only $10).

Also featured will be Doc’s youngest son, Joshua Ben Paskowitz, who recently burst onto the surf art scene. Josh’s impressionistic recreations of iconic surf heroes have been showing to rave reviews across Southern California.  Josh will be debuting 9 original oils on canvas:

  • “San Onofre” – a series that highlights the iconic southern Orange County Surf Beach that the Paskowitz family literally called home.
  • “Riders”  – Josh Paskowitz’s impressionistic interpretation of great images from surfing’s past and present.
  • “Beyond the Road” – highlighting family artifacts and images from the Paskowtiz family’s archives

In addition, Lightening Bolt’s Limited Edition Collector’s Series of Surfboards will be on display.  This will represent the first time these boards have been shown in San Clemente, where they were the inspiration of Jonathan Paskowitz after a surf session on a Rory Russell Pipeliner at Trestles. These five boards were shaped by Gerry Lopez, Tom Parrish, Reno Abellira, Barry Kanaiaupuni and of course Rory Russell.

Two short films by Joshua Paskowtiz will also be debuted at the event.  The Ancient Mariner, a tribute to Doc Paskowtiz and, This is My Road, a documentary of the 4 weeks leading up to Josh’s first art show.

Doc will be signing his classic book, Surfing and Health, and Joshua will be available to discuss his original artwork and commission paintings, which will be for sale.  Refreshments will be available, including featured beverages from Bend Distillery, from Bend. Oregon, the current hometown of Gerry Lopez.
